- Open Airmail → Preferences → Accounts, and select the account you want to send protected attachments from.
- Go to the Advanced (or Server Settings) tab for that account.
- Under Outgoing Mail Server, enter the gateway's inbound server settings — server address and port.
- Set the security type to match the port (SSL for 465, STARTTLS for 587), and enter your account email as the username.
- Save and send a test message to confirm it routes through the gateway.
Airmail's exact menu layout differs a little between the macOS and iOS versions —
this covers the macOS app; see [iOS Mail](/setting-up/ios-mail) if you're looking
for the built-in Apple Mail app on iPhone/iPad instead of Airmail's own mobile app.
